Prayers

Below is a list of prayers one can use at meetings. If you have a prayer that you would like to add to this list please contact us and we will add it. Prayers taken from the ACA Prayer Worksheet.

Set Aside Prayer

God, please set aside everything that I think I know about myself, my brokeness, my spiritual path and You, for an open mind and a new experience with myself, my brokeness, my spiritual path and especially You. Amen.

Traditional Serenity Prayer

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen.

Consent Prayer

God, I offer myself to You, to build with me and to do with me as You wish. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may do Your will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Your Power, Your Love, and Your Way of Life. May I do Your will always! Amen.

Healing

My Creator, I am now willing that You should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that You now remove from me every single defect of character that stands in the way of my usefulness to You and my fellows. Grant me strength as I go out from here to do Your bidding. Amen.

Transformation Prayer
St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me a channel of thy peace;
That where there is hatred, I may bring love;
That where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
That where there is discord, I may bring harmony;
That where there is error, I may bring truth;
That where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
That where there is despair, I may bring hope;
That where there are shadows, I may bring light;
That where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted;
To understand, than to be understood;
To love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds;
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven;
It is by dying that one awakens to eternal life.
Amen.

Willingness (Third Step Prayer)
Big Red Book p. 149

God, I am willing to surrender my fears and to place my will and my life in Your care one day at a time. Grant me the wisdom to know the difference between the things I can and cannot change. Help me to remember that I can ask for help. I am not alone. Amen.

Honesty (Fifth Step Prayer)
Big Red Book p. 206

Divine Creator. Thank you for this chance to speak honesty with another person about the events of my life. Help me accept responsibility for my actions. Let me show compassion for myself and my family as I revisit my thinking and actions that have blocked me from Your love. Restore my child within. Restore my feelings. Restore my trust in myself. Amen.

Seeking and Listening
Big Red Book p. 274

God, when I look let me truly see
When I listen let me truly hear. Amen.

ACA Serenity Prayer

God, grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know that one is ME.

Extended Serenity Prayer

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.
The courage to change the things I can.
And the wisdom to know the difference.
Grant me patience with the changes that take time.
Appreciation of all that I have.
Tolerance of those with different struggles.
And the strength to get up and try again one day at a time.

Litany Against Fear
=Frank Herbert=

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
